In the war he served in the bavarian 4.Pionier-Bataillon. The award says: Geräteführer. Means That: Equipment-leader, so an officer who is responsible for the equipment of the bataillon.

Later (1925) he served with the 7th prussian Reiter-Regiment (cavalry regiment)

The 7.Reiter_Regiment was in Allenstein (East-Prussia) The "A" means: Ausbildungs-Eskadron (Exercise squadron).

In the great war he was awarded with EK 1 and BM4 (bavarian military merit ordre 4th class with swords)
